A proprietary blend is where you don’t know the exact amount of each individual ingredient. Instead, a bunch of ingredients are all lumped into a “matrix” or “complex” or “blend” leaving you blind to the actual doses of each specific ingredient within the blend.
Why Do Companies Use Proprietary Blends?
Companies use proprietary blends mainly for two reasons.
- First, to cut costs by including lower doses of the expensive ingredients and filling the blend with less expensive ingredients to give the illusion of a bigger dose
- Second, to hide their exact formula from their competitors.
While the second reason is understandable, it’s not good for consumers. Consumers deserve to know exactly what how much of each ingredient they are putting into their body..
Why Are Proprietary Blends Bad?
At PreWorkout World our scoring system penalizes brands that use proprietary blends. Why do we do that? We do it because we think proprietary blends are bad for the customer and also bad for the industry.
Full transparency helps the industry move forward, iterate and improve. It also allows customers to make fully informed decisions.
Customers deserve to know exactly what they are getting in their pre-workout.
